Keynote Speaker Dr. Ben Carson
Dr. Ben Carson, world-renowned retired pediatric neurosurgeon and former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, will be the keynote speaker for the Southwest Florida Community Prayer Breakfast to be held on the National Day of Prayer May 5, 2022 at 7 a.m. at The Lee County Sports Complex in Fort Myers.
Dr. Carson, a former White House official and presidential candidate, is now Founder and Chairman of the American Cornerstone Institute. The mission of this new think tank is to promote four founding principles that are cornerstones of our country: faith, liberty, community and life, as well as pursue common sense solutions that challenge conventional groupthink.
In his keynote address, Dr. Carson will share his personal story and faith journey, drawing from recent national and global events.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance on the first Thursday of May when individuals of all faiths join in unified prayer for continued blessings on the nation. Every year, local, state and federal observances are held from sunrise to sunset across the nation and attract more than 2 million people. Except for 2021, when the event was not held due to the pandemic, the Southwest Florida community has been honoring the National Day of Prayer since the Community Prayer Breakfast’s inception in 1988.
Breakfast begins at 6:05 a.m. and will be followed by the program at 7 a.m.
The Community Prayer Breakfast is free, but tickets are required, as seating is limited.

About Southwest Florida Community Prayer Breakfast, Inc.
In 2021, the organizers of the annual community prayer breakfast established a tax-exempt organization known as Southwest Florida Community Prayer Breakfast, Inc., in order to ensure longevity of the event and expand its reach into the community. Founding board members are Carl Barraco, Ron Inge, John Noland and Gary Trippe.
Previously, the annual event was coordinated by local faith-based organizations with support from local community leaders.
Creating a nonprofit organization allows for continued engagement of speakers of Dr. Carson’s caliber and ensures the annual prayer breakfast remains a permanent event in Southwest Florida.
